this thing IS on

post 2
It's taken a bit of time but I've put up the last 2 releases to date on the sidebar for all you good
people to listen to if you feel like it. And you should. Forget listening on myspace, it's real lame as I'm sure nearly everybody with ears has already figured out.
I understand myspaces popularity and all that but quality is a seriously distant consideration. You'd think being the 5th most popular website in the whole of the kingdom (www.alexa.com) and employing several hundred people that they would have attempted a bump up in quality. Even a tiny one. No. Why? because they don't give a crap. Nothing to do with bandwidth/server space/what people want/delete as necessary. They just can't be bothered. It's like getting a newspaper where they've omitted all the letter E's, N's and W's because you'll kind of understand the words without those letters and hey, ink is saved too. Yes, we do understand the words, but the experience is seriously underwhelming and not as originally intended by the author. Assholes.

Don't get me started on Youtube.

Erm, the next couple of posts will be the mp3's of these tracks to download/pass around/do whatever with. In fact, please do, go ahead, you have our permission. There's a little story behind each one so maybe I'll pass that on too.

is this thing on?

Post 1.
We had to get into this sometime. I blame 100 records.

A brief history. yokozuna (no capitals) are 3 people who are in a band who love music. But not in all of its forms as a lot of it is rubbish. We only like awesome stuff. And that's the real point of this.

Like the fire triangle, yokozuna consist of Chris (heat), Kev (fuel) and Russell (oxygen). We don't abbreviate his name for some reason.
Chris likes Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, Descendents and most dodgy old 80's hardcore. He's responsible for the mainly high frequency sounds that yokozuna make, some of it intelligible.
Kev enjoys Bitch Magnet, Slint, Trail of Dead and is currently revisiting a dark industrial past that includes Godflesh and KMFDM. He makes occasional booming sounds.
Russell espouses the virtues of Melt Banana, Urusei Yatsura, Polvo and Eastern Youth to everyone. His liking of Neil Young is not reflected in the strange, driving, clanking sounds that emanate from his arms and legs.

So what qualifies as awesome? Here's a start: fugazi, sonic youth, deerhoof, jesus lizard, pj harvey, number girl, bitch magnet, big black, minutemen, urusei yatsura, eastern youth, melt banana, marnie stern, unsane, superchunk, dinosaur jr, a frames, unwound, shellac, rapeman, mclusky and, of course, yokozuna.

Expect to see new songs, rehearsals, remixes, old songs, back slapping, bitch slapping, ripoffs, riffs, lyrics, ramblings, pleadings and good old fashioned noisy music. We expect feedback, shoutings, big-ups, put-downs, reviews, reviles and reptiles in return.

later,

yokozuna
